Todd Woody (Green Wombat)

Todd Woody is a senior editor at Fortune magazine, San Francisco, CA. He is also the author the Green Wombat blog ( http://business2.blogs.com/greenwombat/ ), hosted by Business 2.0, which deals with environment friendly business, tech, research and investments.

Career: Prior to this, he was in charge of the Business 2.0 magazine's green tech coverage as an assistant editor, a business editor at the San Jose Mercury News and as a writer/editor for the The Industry Standard magazine, San Francisco. He has also covered environmental news for the The Recorder and written for Wired magazine from Australia.

Editor's Note: Mr. Woddy was contacted for a comment on clean energy investments and research trends in green tech, but as of first publishing, there was no response from Mr. Woddy. However, considering his extensive experience and absolute support for environment friendly business practices, we publish Todd Woody's profile with refrence links from his Q & A sessions with other media publications. If we are able to get in touch with him, this post will be updated to reflect Mr. Woddy's input.

Todd Woody first became interested in clean tech and green energy during the California power crisis in 2000-2001, when he noticed an uptick in interest in solar energy and funding for green tech ventures in Silicon Valley. In an interview with David Swain ( Clean PR ), Todd Woody says that "..the biggest change has been the growing alliance between environmental groups and big business to tackle global warming and other issues. There’s a growing consensus that the market can be a mechanism to address such challenges." Regarding the hype surroung green tech investments and funding, he says that, "In any boom there will be those companies that over-promise or are just selling pure hype. But unlike the dot-com boom, most green tech companies are dealing in hard technology and are often run by engineers and scientists who tend to be less prone to exaggeration and self-promotion."

About the Green Wombat Blog: Launched November 2006 as part of the CNNmoney blog network, the blog is focused more on original reporting and breaking green tech news which is typically published a day or so before the news hits the wires. The blog has much less analysis and opinion, as compared to other green tech blogs. Todd Woody spent a lot of time in the bush when he was in Australia, observing the wildlife and he was fascinated by the endangered wombat, which can change it's metabolism as a response to changing climatic conditions.
